Volunteers are needed to work with our Senior Kindergarten or Grade 1 and 2 children who need an extra boost with their reading. A program called Strong Start: Letters, Sounds and Words, has been used very successfully in many schools to do just this- but we need your help to make it work!
Volunteers work with one child at a time for about 30-35 minutes, playing games and activities that give the child lots of repetition in recognizing letters, sounds and words. All of the materials are provided in a kit and each volunteer attends two training sessions. You can help a child tremendously and become involved in your child’s school by giving even 30 minutes of your time each week for 10 weeks. We hope you will join us in this project.
Training is offered on June 12th at Crestview Public School in Kitchener, followed by Part 2 on June 19th at the same location. If you have an interest and would like more information, please call Janet Hale, Principal at 519-514-0105.
