Classroom visits for Y1 and new-to-school Y2 students and families

All Kindergarten students enrolled in board-operated or third party operated Extended Day Programs will transition from the Extended Day classrooms to their regular classrooms beginning on September 4.  Considerations and plans should be made to support both the new family classroom visits and the children attending for the core day on Day 1.

 Day 1:  Tuesday, September 4, 2018:

  • Returning Year Two Students will NOT attend school on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 unless they are in extended day.

  • All “new-to-school” children (Year One Students and new-to-school Year Two Students) and their families will be invited to participate in a classroom visit. This will provide an opportunity for families to meet with the Kindergarten Team, visit the classroom, and share important information that will support the child as he/she is introduced to the larger school community. Administrators and Kindergarten Educators will establish a schedule for small groups of Year One and new-to-school Year Two students (3 to 5 students per session) and their parent(s)/guardian(s) to visit the classroom.  

  • Students who are enrolled in the Extended Day Program are entitled to care from the first day of school.  As a result, children will transition from the Extended Day classroom to their regular classroom. Educators will plan to support their students that will be attending for the core day.

Days 2 and 3:  Wednesday, September 5 and Thursday, September 6, 2018

  • Returning Year Two students will attend full days beginning on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

  • New students (Year One Students and new-to-school Year Two Students) will attend on one of these days (half on Wednesday September 5th and the other half on Thursday September 6th).  

  • Students who are enrolled in the Extended Day Program are entitled to care from the first day of school.  As a result, children will transition from the Extended Day classroom to their regular classroom. Educators will plan to support their students that will be attending for the core day.

Day 4: Friday, September 7, 2018  

  • Regular attendance for all Kindergarten Students begins on Friday, September 7, 2018.

  • Kindergarten students registered for extended day will attend extended day and then move to their classrooms during the school day.
