Form to indicate interest in School council

It is that time of year again where we want to invite members of our community to join our School Council. If you are interested in participating please fill out the form above and submit it asap. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 13th at 6pm. We will be starting with virtual meetings again this year- hopefully as the year progresses and things improve we will be able to bring people together on a monthly basis.

Please let me know if you are unable to access the form (janet_hale@wrdsb.ca) and I will send it to you through email.

We will be conducting our elections during this first meeting if we have multiple people who wish to run for the same position on the executive. Please read through the following descriptor of School council and the Executive roles.

What is the role of School Council?

School Council is an advisory board that functions within the parameters of the Ministry of Education and the Waterloo Region District School Board policies and procedures, specifically Ontario Regulation 612/100. The School Council will assist staff in improving student achievement by providing financial support where possible, recommendations to the staff and administrators, and enhance the accountability of the education system as a whole

What is School Council not?

School Council is not a place to pursue your own agenda. Individual issues should be pursued through the classroom teacher, the Principal and the School Superintendent.

Roles of the Executive Members

Secretary: takes minutes, attends Executive Meetings, manages correspondence

Treasurer: assists with establishing school council budget, monitors flow of money into the council budget and expenses out of the council budget, attends Executive meetings

Vice Chair: assists the Chair, shadows the role of the Chair, fills in when the Chair, shadows the role of the Chair, fills in when the Chair is not available to run the meeting, attends Executive Meetings

Chair: prepares agenda with School Principal, runs School Council meetings, attends executive meetings, meets with the principal to discuss school council business, supports committees

Role of Voting Members: attend all school council meetings, share ideas and input and actively contributes to committees
